Well, my pet story can be short and sweet. The rule of our house is NO

PETS. My parents stated that over and over again. So, as children growing

up, we went to the local creek and brought home frogs and turtles. We made

pens for them outside. When we came home from school, all pets were gone.

Then we captured wild rabbits. Again, after a day or two, they disappeared

on our return from school. Then finally, one day I talked my parents into

letting me get a dog. Well, my mother became very attached to him and when

I got married she would not let me take him with me. She said he had been

with us too long and it would be too emotional for him to change his

surroundings. When it came time to let him go on to the other life, my

mother insisted on taking him herself. We were all too emotionally attached

to him, especially my mother and myself.

So the rule of my married home was - NO PETS. So my kids would sneak in

frogs, turtles, rabbits, injured birds and once a stray cat. Found out my

youngest was alergic - and found a good home for the cat. Then the school

fairs came along and gold fish were won. They never lasted more than a week

or two. But stirred an interest in fish. The fish collection grew, but we

could never keep the water balanced and we kept replacing fish. Finally I

put a stop to fish, it was getting too expensive replacing all the exotic

ones. We now have fish in glass and beanie babies for other odd pets. Both

boys insist they will have a dog when they get their own place. Sounds

great to me!!
