Hello everyone!

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter! Congratulations, Elsie, on

your weight loss and exercise program, which must be in full swing by now

with all of the beautiful weather we are having. Bobby, I wondered if you

would run on that rainy Sunday we had--what a committment!

Marie, how old is your niece? I never got baby chicks at Easter as

a kid because we actualy kept livestock, including chickens, when I was a

youngster. In fact one of the earliest moments of terror I recall happened

when I was about 4 years old. I wanted to walk across the chicken yard to

my Mom but when I got about halfway across, the rooster jumped on my back,

claws digging into my skin and wings flapping madly. I stayed out of the

hen yard after that except for the time our neighbor pulled a gigantic rat

by his tail from behind the water trough. The rat had been feasting on our

hens!

A friend gave Willow a chick when she was about 5. Despite the

messiness of a chicken as a pet, she and Braden really liked the chick and

named it Claire Clucker. I intended to build a hen house for her but

before I had a chance, Claire was nabbed from the inverted play pen where

she spent her outdoors time by a fox. All that remained was a couple of

feathers! Poor Claire!

Currently we have a three-legged cat named Tripod, who lives

outside in the garage due to my allergies and a Cockateil named Henry. We

are at an all-time low for pets, having had several deaths of old pets in

the last year or two. We always seem to get give-aways or strays so I

suspect more will come to live here in future, even if we don't actively

seek them.
