>Chris Wycliff - how have you been? Will you be coming to DC to visit your

daughter any time soon? If so, maybe we could assemble a little get

together.

<

John,

I've been coming up to DC pretty frequently, but usually they're quick

trips with little time for anything but work. Next time it looks like I'll

have some hours to spare, I'll try to make contact. On the bright side, I

don't have to go all the way to DC to see Christina anymore. She just

transferred to University of Houston right up the street from my house.

Been meaning to get in on the travel chat. Skip, you really should be a

travel writer. You've got the gift. And Rose, I'm just in awe, not only

about the places you've been, but about the fact that you took your kids!

You deserve a medal.

I saw a little of Europe when I was in the army in Germany in 71-72. I was

stationed at a tiny missile battery not far from the Rhine, about fifty

kilometers west of Frankfurt. We were in the boondocks so there wasn't a

great deal to see there. The big thrill was to haunt the resort towns -

Bacharach and Boppard - trying to meet American girls. I didn't do nearly

as much traveling as I hoped to, but I did manage a few days in London and

a few in Paris. One of my great disappointments: the one time in my life I

get to Paris and the Louvre is closed because of a strike. Tough luck!

Still, it's a gorgeous city. If you're the least susceptible to romantic

daydreams (like I am), Paris is heaven. I was amazed at how well my high

school French got me by. (Thank you Sr. Gervaise, Mr. Des Rosiers and Mrs.

Dombalagian.)

I did a lot of traveling in the States in the old days (i.e., pre-kids).

I've seen all the lower forty-eight except for Utah. Elsie, was it you

that talked about Bryce Canyon? That's on my list. And I've been

promising Emily, my twelve year old, since she was a baby that I'm going to

take her to the Painted Desert. And Pat H., as far as I'm concerned,

you've got the right idea living in Florida. My wife is from

Hollywood,Florida (the other end of the state). I had never been there

till we married. Now I can't get enough of the place. When I go, I'm a

shameless tourist. Beaches and orange juice, that's all I want.

Gotta go. I'll be in touch.

Chris

P.S. Helen, I didn't get down to Lake Jackson during the holidays but I

haven't forgotten. We still have to get together.
