Hello to all,
My computer had a small crash early this week and it's been driving me nuts.
I had to reload everything and then some things wouldn't work correctly, I
could receive mail but not send it.
Well, now my turn on the travel log. Toronto, Canada is as far north that I
have traveled. It's a beautiful city, they wash the streets early every
morning. I went up the CNN Tower which is over a quater of a mile high, way
up there in the clouds. Also visited Niagara Falls, what a wonderful sight,
especially at night with the light show. Spent a weekend in New York City.
Pam and I stayed at the Plaza Hotel, dined at the Windows of the World
restaurant on top of the World Trade Center, enjoyed a play on Broadway and
rode the horse carriage through Central Park. That trip was compliments of
Bob Rosenthal, the car dealer that I worked for. I spent a week skiing in
Vermont, wind chill got down to a -65, my mustache had ice-cicles hanging from
it. One morning we were able to ski in a foot of virgin snow from the top,
what a thrill. Seven Springs Resort in Pennsylvania is a great four seasons
resort, but of course I liked skiing the best, and it's close to many of you.
Tucson, AZ. is as far west that I have been, the temperature reached 110, but
was very dry, little sweating. The mountains looked so gigantic and
picturesque against the blue sky and white clouds. I also slipped down into
Nogales, Mexico while I was there and did some shopping, you have to negotiate
the price of everything. I'll never forget, it was the first time that I
heard Joe Walsh's song Rocky Mountain Way as I was driving past the mountains.
Skiing in Vail, CO was the greatest! It took 20 minutes on two high speed
lifts to get to the top, like being in heaven, so tranquil. The view of the
mountain ranges were breath taking and the snow was like soft power not the
granular ice found on the East Coast. The village of Vail sits at the bottom
of the mountains, lots of unique shops, a stream runs through the middle of
the village. No cars are allowed in town, just delivery vehicles. I have
been as far south as Miami and have traveled all over the state of Florida.
It is such a beautiful state, all the different beaches and lakes, it's very
different from the North to the South. In 1970 I drove solo to Wichita,
Kansas to see my brother Jim while he was in the Air Force there. I passed by
the arch in St. Louis and got lost on some back roads in Kansas, as far as I
could see there was not a tree in sight, just flat farm land. Two years ago I
went to New Orleans for the 4th of July, the French Quarters is a pretty wild
place. This year I have a friend that has invited Pam and I over for Mardi
Gras. We will be staying on Bourbon Street in a balcony suite, it's going to
be fun. All total I have visited 32 states, Canada and Mexico.
Well, enough traveling for today. Pam and I were watching it snow on the
White House lawn on TV yesterday, what a beautiful sight. Of course, here it
was near 70 degrees. I was working in a short sleeve shirt wonder aloud "is
this really January." Tonight I am going to Roy Jones Jr's light weight
boxing championship fight. It's going to be live on HBO, so see if anyone
spots me on TV.
Ok, let's start throwing out some dates for a summer get together while I'm in
the traveling mode, or at least eliminate some dates. Good hearing all the
chatter, let's keep it up Elsie! And, yes I'm finally getting over FSU's
loss, but watch out for next year!
:) :)
