Elsie,
I have also been feeling like Rosie has led an exotic life, traveling to far
away places. I've been to the Caribbean 2x and Calgary, Canada 3x (on
business, of course!!!) Otherwise my trips have been limited to VA, FL, LA,
PA, WVA and in my distant past (as a child) to the New England states.
However, we are planning my lifetime dream trip....we are going to Ireland
and England for 2 weeks this summer, leaving on July 27th I think. Dan & I
have saved frequent flyer miles for years and had enough for 4 tickets. So,
I'm going to do it before I retire....hopefully in Y2K. What a year that's
going to be! We are in the process of trying to lay out our itinerary now.
Has anyone been to either country and if so, any recommendations on tourist
attractions, places we have to see? Places to stay? Places to eat?
We hope to do a little of everything. Jennifer is interested in dollhouses
and Queen Mary's is on exhibit in Buckingham Palace. Justin wants to visit
(and stay) in castles, ride trains, boats, planes, double decker
buses....what do you expect for a 6 year old?!? Dan wants to check out the
old lighthouses, I want to see the Book of Kells, visit Blarney Castle and
the Giants' Causeway and Oxford and Liverpool England, as well as just tool
around London for a while, just soaking in the culture....looking for Big
Ben, Kensington Gardens, etc., etc., etc. I want to see some of the places
I have only read about all my life. And, I'd like to try to find some of my
relatives in Ireland. My great grandparents lived in Ireland. I have their
names, dates and towns. So, I figure it's worth a try! But the best part
of any trip is the enjoyment during the planning, as much as the pleasure of
the plan's execution!
Well, got to go. I need some sleep before work tomorrow.
